Instagram vs website for florists: what actually converts?

If you're a florist just getting started, you may be wondering whether you really need a website when you already have Instagram. After all, Instagram is free, visual and it gives you a place to showcase your beautiful arrangements.

As a digital marketer and web designer who works specifically with florists, I see Instagram and websites as serving two different purposes. One helps you connect with your audience; the other can make it easier to turn that interest into actual inquiries and orders.

In other words : use them both.

"I need years of experience before I can have a website”

This is one of the biggest myths I'd like to debunk.

I've heard the idea that a florist should wait until they've been in business for years, have hundreds of customers and have thousands of professional photos before investing in a website.

I respectfully diagree and here's why.

You don't need hundreds of client photos to launch a professional florist website. If you're just starting, you can showcase your own arrangements, styled photoshoots, sample bouquets, or even a small selection of services you currently offer.

Your website doesn't have to represent the business you'll have five years from now. It can represent where your business is today while giving you room to grow.

This is actually where I can help. As a web designer specializing in florist websites, I can guide you through what you actually need on your website, what you can leave out for now and how to make the most of the content you already have .... but let's get back to our topic.

Instagram is great but it isn't your entire business

I love Instagram for florists because flowers are incredibly visual. It's a great place to show your work, connect with followers, share behind-the-scenes content and build trust with potential customers.

But when it comes to taking inquiries and orders, things can get complicated.

A customer might send you a DM asking about wedding flowers. Then another person asks about availability. Someone else comments on a post asking for your prices. Eventually, important information can become buried in conversations.

A website gives you another option and its main goal is to convert your prospect to buy your products or work with you. Let me repeat again for those in the back : your website will promote your business while you sleep and is meant to convert the visitor to a client.

Instead of asking potential customers to explain everything through Instagram messages, you can direct them to an inquiry form. They can provide their event date, location, type of service, budget and other relevant details in one place.

For me, the ideal strategy isn't Instagram versus website. It's Instagram bringing people to your website, where they can take the next step.

Who should build your florist website?

You essentially have three options.

DIY: This can be a good starting point if your budget is extremely limited and you have the time and patience to learn website design. The downside? You'll be responsible for everything, from design and mobile optimization to structure and technical issues.

Hire any web designer: You get professional help, but there's an important question to ask: does that designer understand florists? A florist website has different needs from a restaurant, lawyer, or software company. Kinda obvious isn't it ?

Work with me: I specialize exclusively in building websites for florists. That means I understand the kind of services you're selling, the importance of your portfolio, the role Instagram plays in your marketing and what potential clients need before contacting you.

My goal isn't simply to make you a pretty website. I want to build a website that helps turn visitors into inquiries.

So if you're wondering whether you're “ready” for a website, don't wait until you've been in business for years. Start with what you have and build strategically.

If you're a florist who wants a professional website but isn't sure what you actually need yet, that's exactly where I can help. Get in touch with me and let's discuss your business, your goals, and what your website should do for you. I'll help you determine the right structure, content, and features for where your business is today without making you invest in things you don't need.

Turn your Instagram audience into real inquiries TODAY. Don't wait for another 3 years. Your future self will thank you later.
