Are you at a stage where you need a website?

Updated: Oct 29, 2024

There's no rule or timeline that small business owners should follow when it comes to selling online. Any agency or individual trying to convince you to launch a site is just trying to

promote their services

What I mean by that is getting a website should align with your goals. Many florists have been running their businesses for decades and never thought of investing in a good website. It could be a personal preference or it could be a matter of budget. Since I don't know your situation, let's look at things based on your years in business.

Before starting, it's my duty to mention that it's not mandatory to have a website to become a successful wedding florist. I've seen many floral designers doing really well without a site.

I'm not sharing this article to enumerate the benefits of having your own site.

Table of contents

1/You haven't started yet, you're in the early stages of your journey

I guess it's fair to say that a website doesn't have be your priority right now. If you landed on this page and you're a beginner, perhaps you've just graduated from a floristry school, then focus on other aspects first.

Just a few recommendations:

  • Determine the type of business you wanna start (flower shop, online florist, wedding florist, etc)

  • The customers you wanna cater to (local people, are you willing to travel, etc)

  • Your pricing point (common prices in your city, high-end & luxury, etc)

  • The marketing channel (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc)

  • Upfront costs (flowers, brick & mortrar, advertising budget, etc)

Once you have more clarity, you'll be able to decide by yourself - without anyone telling you - if you need to own a site straightaway or not. Trust your judgment.

2/You've been selling flowers for 6 months at least

Now I'm assuming here that you've been using social media so far. In this case, the idea of having a website has probably crossed your mind all these months, right?

I believe that's the reason why you're reading this post right now.

So here's my 2 cents to help you make the right decision.

1/Your floral website should be a sign of growth, showing to your customers that you wanna be taken seriously and you wanna look legitimate. Hear me out on this one: taking orders through DMs doens't really look professional. I'm sure you know it already.

2/You're tired of comparing offers online. You may have been looking for the right Web Designer for weeks or you're tempted to sign up for a floral software subscription. Either way, you just want reassurance and confirmation that it's time to go all in.

So this is your sign!

3/You were always against getting a website but you came across this article

Friend, this may be a wake up call ... or not. It's all about psychology. Let me give you an example. Imagine that you've never been interested in a particular product before, let's say sunscreen. You know that many people wear sunscreen. The researches show that it's helping you long-term, it prevents premature aging and reduces skin cancer risk. But for some reason, you were never convinced about it.

Then one day, you stumbled upon a piece of content online that somehow catches your attention. At this point, you already know the advantages of using sunscreen and you still end up consuming the content.

Do you think it's your subconscious mind reaffirming your old beliefs or could it be a sign that you're unconsciously waiting for the right argument to buy sunscreen?

This is the exact same thing with a website.

Having your own site will likely benefit you in so many ways. A quick Goolge search will confirm it. Here's my question: What's preventing you from getting one since you're still reading this article now?
