I'm going to do my best to be as objective as possible because I consider myself a WIX and Wordpress Web Designer.
To be honest with you, writing about this topic is quite challenging for me because of the assumptions many people have about WIX. But then again, it's just a matter of personal convictions so give me a chance to state it once and for all. WIX is not as bad as many Web Designers think it is.
They've just positioned themselves to be seen as this "FREE Website for DIY people" option and ruined their image to be taken seriously by fellow Designers. Then many small business owners started believing that WIX is for DIY people and it's not Professional.
I agree to the 1st part of that sentence to a certain extent. WIX is perfect for non-tech savvy people but it doesn't mean that you can't create incredible websites on this platform.
So yes, I feel like they failed their marketing somehow and had to introduce the WIX Design Studio to improve their image.
Anyway, I digress but I needed to address the elephant in the room before talking about today's topic. Wether you desire to launch a new website or you’re thinking of revamping your current flower website, it’s always better to do researches.
Table of contents
1/ Try at least 3 site builders and pick the one you liked using the most
It would be boring to just list the pros & cons of choosing WIX. You may have noticed that I've never given any clear YES or NO type of answer in my articles and guess what? I'm doing it again today.
From a logical point of view, you'll only be able to determine if WIX could be the right site Builder if you actually compared it with other builders beforehand. So take your time to create different accounts and follow your gut about the one you feel drawn to.
I'd suggest you try WIX, Squarespace and Wordpress. You can also try Shopify if you plan on launching an online floral shop.
Get familiar with their dashboards, the site setup and rate them based on your User Experience. You'll quickly notice that Wordpress is not for beginners while WIX & Squarespace are.
2/ It depends on your business structure
If you desire to run an ecommerce store then go for Shopify. Shopify is the number 1 site Builder for online stores. WIX is a great alternative but I'd personally opt for Shopify. I've been using it for years and never had any issues.
On the other hand if you're only trying to get in touch with your customers through a Contact Form for example, then WIX would be perfect for you. The User Interface is extremely intuitive.
Same thing for a wedding florist, go for WIX if you view your site as a portfolio where you'll be displaying all your past works.
3/Know your budget
WIX is pretty affordable. It's one of the best options in the market in terms of premium pricing plans. You'll find below the yearly plans comparison.
WIX | $150 |
Squarespace | $192 |
Wordpress | $96 |
Shopify | $288 |
Don't hesitate to go for an entire year subscription, it will cost you less than the regular monthly billing.
4/Read reviews online
To be completely transparent with you, the reviews will help you more than any article will ever do. Again, compare the different websites builders' reviews and make up your mind afterwards. There's no right or wrong option form for your floral business.
Many florists don't even choose any of them. They'd rather subscribe to a floral software company. Don't get overwhelmed on this one.
Here's how I'd proceed if I were you: I would pick the platform based on how easy it'll be for me to use it.
So at the end of the day, it's about practicality. There's no point in investing a huge amount of money on a particular site builder in attempt to copy what everyone else is doing.
Follow your instinct, don't overestimate your design skills, go for the easiest interface available.
Luckily for you, I wrote an article about the best website builder for a florist. Read it next before making a decision.
And if you really want to build your flower website yourself, then learn about the pros and cons of that type of DIY project first.
This article may not have answered your deepest questions but now you have actionable steps to take. Go back to the 1st section and start from there.
